Review times in your life when emotions ran wild and wrong decisions were made, whether trauma, illness, divorce or loss, and how it altered your life path.
Accept responsibility for your part in the outcome, then forgive yourself for allowing it to happen. "Easier said than done" you say? Maybe, but it's a good place to start without suppressing your emotions and stuck in past.
Release draining unfulfilling relationships, situations, and old belief systems that are not conducive to your growth (people and situations that drain your energy and unsupportive people); Then meditate on what and who needs to be eliminated from your life; Honor them for what they taught you i.e. strength, endurance; Bless them then detour around them. Let go with love, always love and trust the outcome is not in your hands. It's the only way it/they don't come back to haunt you. REPLACE and RESTORE
Replace them with positive, loving, supportive people/situations, and Restore your sanity. E.A. Just for Today #7 I will know I have a purpose in life. I may not know what it is but I will enjoy the journey. I will save myself from two pests, hurry and indecision.

JOURNALING TOWARD SELF-DISCOVERY As much as verbal sharing of emotional or mental pain is cathartic, journaling gains more awareness as to what we could or said or done differently to have a more positive outcome. This kind of awareness is priceless and cuts recovery time in years.
A good way to begin is writing one emotion each day on a calendar (i.e. anxiety, fear; anger; loneliness; resentment; indecision; betrayal etc.) After one month you can work on the emotion that appears most often. In this way your journey toward recovery isn't so overwhelming or stressful.
